Atlanta Solar Panel Company, Sunpro Solar
There are many things that Atlanta is known for- the Civil Rights Movement, the Georgia Aquarium (the largest aquarium in the world), the Coca-Cola Museum, the list goes on and on. And the list also includes solar panels. In Atlanta, solar panels are becoming more and more popular with residents and business owners. When you look at the increase in savings solar panels give you, it only makes sense.
Keeping Atlanta Bright
Atlanta is a busy, bustling city. With its numerous museums, parks and attractions, it’s not hard to see why. But each one of these amazing places needs
electricity- and so does your home. And sometimes all that electricity used can add to a bigger utility bill than you expected. But a new, Atlanta solar panel system can help. Solar panels produce clean, renewable energy that you can use to power your home’s appliances, including your A/C. As long as the sun is shining, your solar panels will produce electricity. And solar energy is catching on in a big way.
It’s not just residences and businesses, the City of Atlanta itself is becoming more and more green by the day. In December 2003, the City passed a Green Building Ordinance that applies to city-owned facilities and city-funded projects. So any new construction or renovations done by the City of Atlanta that exceed certain sizes have to follow sustainable design principles. They must also follow other green-minded requirements to minimize the environmental impact. This sets an excellent example not only for the citizens of Atlanta, but also for the rest of the state.
Incentives and Rebates for Atlanta Solar Panels
Solar panels have decreased in price dramatically over the past decade, and they’ll likely decrease even more. And as utility rates continue to slowly climb, solar panels will end up saving you a bundle. With all the fantastic incentives we’ve listed below, you could save even more on your solar panel system!
- Federal Solar Tax Credit
- Net Metering
- Georgia’s Solar Easements Act
Using the Federal Solar Tax Credit for Atlanta Solar Panels
The federal government offers the most generous incentive to go solar in the form of the federal solar tax credit. With this program, you can reduce the cost of your Atlanta solar panels by a third by getting it back in tax credits! And your tax credits will roll over to the next year if you don’t use them all!
But be aware that this generous incentive will only be available at 26% until the end of 2020. After that, it’s reduced each year until 2022. At that point, only commercial solar panels will be eligible for a 10% tax credit, and residential solar panels won’t be eligible at all. So you’ll need to act quickly to take advantage of the full 26% tax credit.
Solar Net Metering in Atlanta
If you want to get the most out of your solar panels, net metering is the way to go. The owner of a solar panel system who has net metering will receive credit for any excess energy produced by the solar panels. The credit can then lower their monthly electric bill- with enough sunlight, it can even lower the electric bill to $0.
At the moment, there is no net metering policy offered for the State of Georgia. But utility companies are allowed, and do, offer net metering to customers. Georgia Power, which services Atlanta, offers net metering to customers who would like to go solar. We have listed out the details below.
Georgia Power offers a unique buyback program. They purchase renewable energy from eligible providers until cumulative generative capacity reaches a specific amount set by the Georgia Public Service Commission.
This program is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Limitation on system size is 10 kW for residential and 250 kW for commercial.
Solar Easements Act for Atlanta Solar Panels
Although the first solar panels left the testing labs in the U.S. in the 1950’s, they didn’t start becoming a common sight until the 2000’s. That’s when the efficiency and price of the solar panels made them a great investment for the average home and business owner. That’s what makes Georgia’s Solar Easements Act of 1978 is so remarkable. The state of Georgia, realizing that solar energy would be a game changer, passed this easement to help future owners of solar panel systems decades before they became a common home improvement.
The idea behind an easement is simple. An ‘easement’ is a legal term that means someone may use your property for a stated purpose. For example, let’s say you own a piece of property. Your neighbor needs to drive through the property to reach their own. That means that they have an easement. So in this instance, your neighbor may drive through your property to reach their home, but they cannot do anything else. They can’t suddenly walk into your front yard and start planting flowers. There are different kinds of easements, but they are usually only granted under specific circumstances, and with the property owner’s approval.
But this act means that you can prevent others from doing things that would affect your solar panels. Let’s use another example. Say you’ve installed a beautiful new Atlanta solar panel system with the help of Sunpro Solar. But your neighbor wants to plant a new tree that will grow to completely block some of your panels. This act means that you can create an easement for the airspace in front of, or around, your solar panels. That way, no one can build or plant anything that would prevent your solar panels from getting sunlight. So your solar power system will have access to all the light it needs to energize your home.
