Charlotte Solar Incentives
The state of North Carolina has a number of incentives that make the switch to solar power financially beneficial for you. If you’re considering installing solar panels in your Charlotte home, then be sure to take advantage of these amazing incentives. Take advantage of some of these amazing incentives such as a 26% federal tax credit, big savings on your energy bills with net metering, and a rebate on your solar panels.
Solar incentives for Charlotte solar panels include:
If you want to buy your Charlotte solar panels for the best possible price, this is the incentive you want to look at. Because renewable energy systems, like solar panels, are so popular- and are only growing in popularity- the federal government has decided to help people who want to go green. From now until December 31st, 2022, they’re offering a 26% Federal Solar Tax Credit that you can use to help cover the cost of going solar. So from the start, you can get a big discount when you go solar.
If you decide to go solar in Charlotte and use the tax credit, it’s only at 26% until the end of 2022. Your solar panel system will need to be installed and operational by then, or you will not be eligible for the 26% tax credit. In 2023, the tax credit percentage will be reduced to 22%.
Duke Energy Solar Rebate for Charlotte Solar Panels
The federal solar tax credit isn’t the only incentive available however- Duke Energy, the electric utility company for Charlotte, North Carolina, also offers a rebate that customers can use. This particular rebate is available for all solar systems- residential and commercial alike- that are 10kW or less in size. Eligible customers can get $600 in rebates for each 1kW their system can produce. For example, a customer could get a $3,000 rebate for their 5kW solar panel system. The maximum amount a customer can receive is $6,000.
With both of these incentives, you could get your solar panel system for a fantastic price. Let’s look at an example. Suppose you purchase a new solar panel system that was 10kW in size and had a total cost of $16,000. With the 26% tax credit, your cost would be reduced to $11,800. And with Duke Energy’s $6,000 max rebate, your total cost would be reduced yet again to $5,840. That’s a massive bargain!
Property Tax Exemption for Charlotte Solar Panels
In addition to the two amazing incentives above, you get to enjoy the added value that solar panels will add to your home. Normally this extra value would be added to your property taxes, but the North Carolina government has made all Charlotte solar panels exempt from property taxes! So you can get that added value without having to pay anything extra.
Net Metering for Charlotte Solar Panels
As if you needed any other reasons to switch to solar, North Carolina requires all utility companies to offer net metering to solar customers at a full retail rate. This is an amazing way for you to get the most out of your solar panels.
It works like this- your solar panels capture sunlight, and produce clean solar power. That solar power is converted into electricity and is used by your home to power all your appliances. Sometimes though your solar panels will produce even more electricity than your home will need. With net metering, that excess energy will be sent to your utility company’s grid. They will then credit your account for the electricity they receive, thus lowering your monthly bill even further.Start Saving Today

Great experience with Sunpro Solar in regards to our solar installation. Thanks to our sales rep, Daniel Fishbaine, for educating us and expediting the process so that we were able to get the 30% tax credit applied, even though the installation occurred at the very end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020. The process was quite seamless. I also think Corine Green for coordinating all of the details with us and expediting the process. According to our Enphase app, we are actually producing much more energy than I even thought possible and have exported almost 90 KWH to the grid each of the last 2 days. I highly recommend SunPro for solar installation. Everyone should remember that the tax credit for 2020 is now only 26% and will be 22% next year and then is phased out unless Congress does something to extend the credits.
