The Future World is Solar: Don’t Get Left Behind!

solar power energy

Imagine a world in which solar panels and wind turbines are everywhere and our natural resources fuel us. In this world, solar, the most abundant source, leads the charge. This new world is our future, and in the not so distant future. The future of solar energy is looking bright!

Why is solar the future?

Energy efficiency is not only good for the environment, it’s also good for our economy. And people other than environmental scientists are starting to catch on to the benefits.

In response to the COVID-19, the IEA recently published the Sustainable Recovery Plan which aims to “add 1.1% to GDP, create 9 million jobs, eliminate 4.5 metric gigatons of greenhouse gas emissions and ensure that 2019 was the year of peak global emissions.”(1)

This plan is promising for the future of solar since energy efficiency is at the heart of this proposal. The renewable energy industry creates more jobs than non-renewables since it’s labor intensive. So an investment in energy efficiency is an investment in the economy.

What does the future of solar energy look like?

Bloomberg NEF (BNEF) published a New Energy Outlook (NEO) in 2019, which combines the expertise of over 65 market and technology specialists in 12 countries to provide a unique view of how the energy market will evolve.(2)

What they found was that it is expected for wind and solar to make up almost 50% of the world electricity in 2050, making renewable energy the dominating energy of the future.

The charts below demonstrate the projected mix of energy sources as they progress from 2020 and beyond. A huge spike in renewable energy is expected, driving the use of non-renewable energy down dramatically.

Which means we are going to see a massive boost in the solar and wind industries through 2050, and even larger beyond that. Solar panels on homes and businesses could soon become the new normal.

In a recent article in Bloomberg, the author describes solar panels as the next home decor trend: “Small-scale solar will come to dominate rooflines in all but the most northern and southern latitudes. Conversations around the dinner table will drift into personal energy tech, from wall-mounted battery units to the latest e-bike or electric vehicle. And whether we take a train or the highway, we’ll pass hundreds of wind turbines and ground-mounted panels.”(3)

Don’t get left behind!

The future of solar energy is sooner than you think. The recent focus of stimulus spending is on green energy to boost the economy. In addition to the pressing demand of experts to keep the global rise in temperature below 1.5C. Growing concern in both of these areas is certain to push policies surrounding green energy forward faster.

What this means for you is that before you know it, you will be surrounded by solar energy products. Don’t be the last on your block to adopt this technology that benefits the environment and economy, and also saves you money on your electric bill! What other reason do you need to switch over to the power of the future?
